Fermiology and the low-energy electronic ground state of high-temperature superconductors - a transport perspective

In this talk, I will review our latest measurements the limiting low-temperature behaviour of the resistivity and Hall effect in high-T_c cuprates, on both the underdoped and overdoped side of the phase diagram, using high magnetic fields to suppress the superconductivity. In particular, I will show that despite being an angle-integrated probe, transport can provide k-dependent information on both the band structure and the scattering rate. I will also discuss the observation of Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations in the underdoped cuprate YBa_2Cu_4O_8.
