Mottness scenario for non-Fermi liquid heavy fermion systems

Though Fermi liquid heavy fermion (FLHF) systems of intermetallic alloys are considered well understood, the nature of the non-Fermi liquid heavy fermions (NFLHF) remain hotly debated. What makes the situation even more remarkable is that both types of systems have the same atomic components and the same hamiltonian, the Periodic Anderson Model, is usually the starting for their theoretical study.

In this talk, we shall show that both FLHF and NFLHF can be understood within a common framework, and that the anomalous properties of the NFLHF can be traced back to the proximity of a Mott insulating state.
